Well, it's been ages, but, such is life! I saw this video recently - Google Goggles Demo Up Close . It looks interesting. A possible app for enabling image analysis, ID and web-linking from mobile-phone camera shots of artworks, places, people, and books.
On the one hand, there is some discussion, especially in the museum information science field, that this might overcome the problem of copyright/owner search for visual images. Specifically, in the case of orphan works. It is interesting, but it is not the first visual search engine. Besides, does google really need to own the entire world?
